Season's Greetings from IHPBA

2021 has been another challenging year; we had hoped to travel to all three regional congresses in Bilbao, Bali and Miami, however the A-PHPBA and E-AHPBA Regional Congresses converted to fully virtual meetings while many international delegates were unable to travel to the AHPBA meeting in Miami.  Despite this, all three congresses were a great success, and I would like to congratulate the organisers on delivering excellent meetings during these difficult times.

We are very excited to be able to meet again in person at the 15th IHPBA World Congress in New York.  Over 1,200 delegates have already registered for the meeting and we hope you can join us.

Dr Javier Lendoire and his Scientific Committee have developed an outstanding programme and we look forward to hearing from world-renowned experts on the latest developments in HPB surgery.  It is also a great opportunity to watch our rising stars present their latest research.

I have been delighted to see that despite the global pandemic, IHPBA’s membership is larger than it has ever been.  We currently have over 3,700 members from 103 countries, and we anticipate that this will continue to grow in the run up the World Congress.  This demonstrates to me that our members value being part of the IHPBA community now more than ever!

The work of the IHPBA Foundation has been somewhat curtailed by the pandemic with many outreach missions being postponed.  However, this did not stop our dedicated volunteers and a successful virtual outreach program (V-Reach) was launched in early 2021.  Eight sessions have taken place to date with more in the pipeline.  I would like to thank Dr Jagannath and his team for pulling this together.  We also recently invested in virtual reality technology and are excited to take V-Reach to the next level.  If you have not already done so, I would urge you to consider making a donation to the IHPBA Foundation before the end of the year.  You can do this when you renew your dues or via the online form here.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for everything you do to help achieve our mission to improve evidence-based care and optimise the outcomes of patients with HPB disorders throughout the world.

I hope you and your loved ones can get some time to enjoy the holiday season and I wish you all a safe and peaceful new year.
