Recruiting for Early Career Surgeons Group

It is a guiding principle of the IHPBA to nourish and build our communities, and as over 30% of our members are under the age of 40, one of the strategic objectives adopted by Council in Geneva was to establish a dedicated sub-group for this important constituency, allowing us to build on our work to educate and inspire young surgeons who, after all, are the future of our association.

In order to achieve this, the Early Career Surgeons group will have the space and resources to discuss and define collective needs and goals and to have a say in how the IHPBA can develop and deliver benefits to both meet those needs, and to grow and channel the huge pool of talent within this group.  The group will be formally launched at the General Assembly in Melbourne, but in the meantime we will establish a basic structure which of course can be adjusted by the YS membership as the group’s role and activities evolve over time.

We will therefore be identifying and inviting dynamic, energetic individuals who are keen to take advantage of the opportunity to get involved at ground level to become part of the YS leadership, and to help shape the future of this organisation.

Young Surgeons will have representation on IHPBA Council, and we have arranged to have a dedicated lounge area where they can meet, network and come up with ideas of how the group might look and function at the Melbourne World Congress.

Moving forward from the Melbourne launch, the YS group will provide a forum where members can enjoy collaborative work to develop new initiatives and lead projects that are aimed at young HPB surgeons and their networks.  We recognise that our young surgeons can contribute much to IHPBA’s future direction and so will also rely on this group to nominate representatives to join IHPBA working committees, as these must also innovate to meet the needs and expectations of our younger members.

If you are under the age of 40 in September 2020, have great ideas, energy, creativity and ambition and would like to get involved in this new and exciting initiative we want to hear from you!

Please see the news article on joining an IHPBA committee for details on how to apply.
